Duolingo Super vs Free: Features to Know Before You Subscribe

QUICK ANSWER

Bottom line

Duolingo offers a free learning experience alongside paid subscriptions such as Super Duolingo and Duolingo Max. The practical differences are mostly about the learning experience and extra features rather than replacing the core language-learning approach. Before subscribing, check the exact plan available to your account and region because features and plan details can change.

What you can do with the free version

Duolingo's free experience lets learners complete lessons and build a regular study habit without paying for a subscription. The app's core lesson system is designed around short practice sessions, progress tracking, and repeated exposure to language skills.

The free experience can include ads and limits that encourage learners to manage practice carefully. What appears in the app can change as Duolingo tests new features and learning flows.

What Super Duolingo adds

Duolingo describes Super as its paid tier with extra benefits such as an ad-free experience, unlimited hearts, and additional practice and streak-related features. Duolingo's official information also describes a personalized Practice Hub for Super learners, with options to review mistakes and practice skills in different ways.

Duolingo's current corporate information lists Super Duolingo as one of its subscription tiers, alongside Duolingo Max. Exact features, pricing, and availability can vary by country and account, so verify the live offer before subscribing.

Super vs Max

Super and Max are not the same tier. Duolingo says Max includes the existing Super benefits plus additional AI-powered features and exercises, such as Video Call and Roleplay, subject to current availability.

For someone comparing plans, start with the features you actually intend to use. Paying for a higher tier only makes sense when its additional features are relevant to your learning routine.

How to decide what you need

Choose based on your study habits: how often you practice, whether ads interrupt your sessions, whether you frequently run out of hearts, and whether extra practice tools are useful to you. A consistent daily habit is still more important than the plan name.

Before ordering a subscription through a reseller, confirm the exact subscription tier, duration, account activation method, region, renewal behavior, and support terms. Keep control of your own account and never share your password or one-time verification code with a seller.

A simple checklist before buying

Check the exact plan name; confirm what features are included for your account and country; verify the subscription duration and renewal terms; confirm whether access is added to your own account; and keep your receipt and support details.

Duolingo can update features and subscription packaging over time. Use the current Duolingo app and official subscription information as the final reference instead of relying on old screenshots or third-party feature lists.
